The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog is an ancient breed of dog that has naturally spread all over the Romanian territories. The main reason for the existence of this breed in the Carpathian Mountains is its utility for the herdsmen.

The history of this breed takes us back to the migration of the Celtic tribes (the Celts are one of the first are the first Indo-European populations, which have spread in Europe since the second millennium BC until the first century. Their tribes stretched from the British Isles and northern Spain to Transylvania, and from the coast of the Black Sea to Galicia and Anatolia), which were accompanied by dogs similar to the Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog.

Also, sheep dogs with similar features like the Romanian Mioritic Shepherd Dog were brought by the Tartars in the North area of the Black Sea and around the Caspian Sea. From theretheyspreadtoMoldova.

The standard was drafted by the Romanian Cynological Association in 1981. The Technical

Commission of the R.C.A. adapted and revised the Standard on 29.03.2002 to conform to the F.C.I model established in Jerusalem.
